Introduction

The history of Chhattisgarh dates back to very early times when it was known as South Kosala. The Aryan migrants to the South passed through it. It is a tribal -dominated territory situated between Orissa and Jharkhand in the East and Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra in the west. The population of the state is 17.6 million of which one third is tribal. The capital is of the state is Raipur. The state spans an area of 1,35,000 sq km and is divided in 16 districts. It has 5.88 million hectares of cultivable land and 6.07 million hectares of forest cover. The state has a mega steel plant at Bhilai and a few large cement factories. The major economic activities of the people of the state are agriculture, mining and forestry.

Its holyland is irrigated by Mahanadi, Shivnath, Indravati, Hasdo & Kharun river. From historical point of view, Chhattisgarh is so rich & from traditional point of view it is always a place of central attraction. Geographical differences of Chhattisgarh makes people's civilization more colourful. By this its natural brilliance is innaugrated by its excellent,wonderful,curious, people life, aboriginal & modern life system. Its history, archaeology, art, culture, religious places, natural sophistication, forest life & industries etc. are flower of vision. Many civilization were born in Chhattisgarh in which Maurya, Saatvahan, Vakatak, Guptavansh, Nalvansh, Panduvansh, Somvanshi, Nagvanshi, Mandlik & Kalchuri (Haihayvanshi) Rajvansh are mentionable.

Travelogue

Raipur and Bilaspur are the most convenient bases for visiting all major places of tourist interest in the area. The cities are important commercial centers of the state. The main tourist attractions in the state are Kawardha, Bastar, Jagdalpur, Amarkantak, Raipur, Tanor Pingla Wildlife Sanctuary, Samorsot Wildlife Sanctuary, Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary, Indravati Wildlife Sanctuary, etc. The state is well connected to the rest of the country by road, rail and air.
